Big Black Covers

A while back, I downloaded an internet album called "We are the ready men," which was a Big Black tribute album. The link is dead, but here are 7 of the songs (which is all I could find on my hard drive).

Negative Trend EP

From 1978, one of my favorite punk rock EPs of all time. 4+2 (punk) rockin' songs, by a band that included future Flipper members.

Meat House
Black and Red (Gray)
How Ya Feelin’?

Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel - Nail

One of my favorite efforts from Foetus (1985). Solid industrial like it was meant to be. Listening to it makes me want to get and abortion, and I'm not even a woman! Play it for your mama, and she'll probably wish she had had one.

1) Theme From Pigdom Come
2) The Throne Of Agony
3) !
4) Pigswill!
5) Descent Into The Inferno
6) Enter The Exterminator
7) DI-1 9026
8) The Overture From Pigdome Come
9) Private War
10) Anything (Viva!)

(Download Deleted.)

Nomeansno Presents: One Down Two to Go

Here's a rarity (at least it's hard to find in Seattle, which is just South of B.C.). It features the musical adventures of Mr. Right & Mr. Wrong. It's not my favorite Nomeansno album, but I still like it a lot. If you are a fan, then you will too. One thing about this album is the mix of musical styles, which, although consistent with the band's overall work, is not usually found on a single album.

Track Listing:

Red on Red
Who Fucked Who
Pigs and Dogs
More Icbms
Blinding Light
I'm Doing Well
This Wound Will Never Heal
Real Love
Baldwang Must Die
Sitting on Top of the World
Canada Is Pissed

D&A Presents - H.C. Comp 1

The other day I burned a disk for work, and I liked it so much, I thought I would share. This download has 30 sweet tracks that I would highly recommend (assuming you like hard core, anyway). These songs are from a variety of sources, included those links at the bottom right. Thanks for the fun!

Chicks On Speed - The Re-Releases Of The Un-Releases

Chicks On Speed, from Munich, Germany, can be described as funny, silly and sometimes techno-punk. This album contains many of their better known songs. Enjoy!

NoMeansNo - Would We Be Alive?

My favorite Northwest (or is it Southwest?) band is probably NoMeansNo from Vancouver, B.C. If for some strange reason you don't know this band, then you should. Although not their greatest effort, this 4 song EP is a good start. Their music style could be described as bass-centered H.C., and it sure beats the crap out of boring music like Primus. They are also an awesome live act. I caught several shows that also featured D.O.A. and other acts like M.D.C. I was never disappointed.

Suicide - Ghost Riders

The first US "industrial" act, dating to the 1970s, was Suicide. Their drum machine was made from a bowling pin setter. People threw knives at them on stage.

Track Listing:
Rocket U. S. A.
Rock 'N' Roll (Is Killing My Life)
Ghost Rider
Dream Baby Dream
Sweet White Lady
96 Tears - (bonus track)

I've always been particularly fond of Sweet White Lady. "Don't do heroin."

No Trend - More

Why do I like No Trend? Because I just do. If you don't get it, then you probably never will. The No Hopus Opus is as relevant today as when it was first recorded (whatever that means).

Track Listing
1. Intro
2. Fuzzy Dice
3. Sorry I Asked
4. Spank Me (With Your Love Monkey, Baby)
5. Last On Right, Second Row
6. Bel-Pre Declining
7. No Hopus Opus

Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers - Into The Void

Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers - Into The Void is one of may favorite H.C. albums. I recommend playing it very loud, and listening to "Crushed by the Wheels of Industry" repeatedly until it penetrates your mind. Let the music speak for itself.

Track Listing:

A1 Feel Like (3:09)
A2 Enemy (4:22)
A3 Sterilized (4:02)
A4 Sorry (3:31)
A5 R.M. (2:28)
B1 Daymare (4:04)
B2 Romeo & Juliet (3:32)
B3 Strange Pain (2:22)
B4 Crushed By The Wheels Of Industry (6:57)
B5 Into The Void (2:58)

Raw Power - Trust Me!

The other day, my 4-year old daughter and I were driving down the road. She said, "Daddy, I wanna hear some Rock-N-Roll!" So I played her Raw Power. She pumped her fist, and screamed, "Now, that's Rock-N-Roll!!!"

Sure is, sweetie. She knows how to make her father proud.

This album from 2000 compares very favorably with earlier material (for a change). Play it LOUD for the children.

Track List:

1. Feed Them Grazioli
2. Give Me A Drink
3. What Can We Do?
4. Suicidal
5. Take Your Hands Off Me!
6. Can't Put Up With It
7. Behind The Door
8. Not Here, Not Now, Not Me
9. George
10. Can't Do That
11. Don't Blame Me
12. Poverty
13. We Hate You
14. Back In U.S.
15. Hey, Bastard
16. Trust Me!

Joy Division - Warsaw Studio Demos 1978 & 1979
aka "Fun Multiplication II" bootleg

Now that it's time to start posting direct music, rather than old downloads, I though I would start with one of my favorite CDs (at least judging by the number of times I listened to it). Joy Division - Warsaw Studio Demos 1978 & 1979 aka "Fun Multiplication II" bootleg is much rawer than most of their studio albums, and that's probably why I like it so much.

Track Listing:
All of This For You
Leaders Of Men
They Walked In Line
No Love Lost
Exercice One (First Peel Session)
Insight (First Peel Session)
She ‘s Lost Control (First Peel Session)
Transmission (First Peel Session)
Living In The Ice Age

MC Hawking sez "Fuck the Creationists!"

Few know (or seem to care) that world famous physicist Steven W. Hawking leads a double life as a ruthless gangsta rapper with the tag line MC Hawking.

Now available is all his past downloads that you can't get right now. Also includes Why Won't Jesse Helms just hurry up and die? (thankfully, the fat pig-fucker finally did), and others that your mama would be appalled if you missed.

Concluding (for now) the earlier Belorussian theme, Deviation is interesting and has more range than the previous two selections. In fact, the lead singer actually sings. Imagine.

Cuba punk rocker spared jail term

Cuba punk rocker spared jail term:
A court in Havana, Cuba, has ordered a punk rock musician to pay a fine of $30 (£15) for public disorder for playing his band's music too loud.

However, Gorki Aguila was cleared of a more serious charge that could have led to a jail sentence.

The lead singer of band Porno Para Ricardo is known for songs that ridicule Cuba's communist government.

He had faced a possible four year term in prison for the crime known in Cuba as social dangerousness.

The controversial law allows the jailing of people who the authorities believe have been displaying behaviour that would indicate they could be on the verge of committing a crime.
See also the Porno Para Ricardo Video.

Continuing with the Belorussian theme, here's another great band called Dissent, and they even sing in English. Includes a cover of Minor Threat's Filler. It's good/bad solid H.C. Punk. Check it out.

Monday, August 25, 2008

Even though I don't speak Belorussian (at least I assume), I really can't get enough of this band. Antiglobalizator, from Belarus, features both male anf female vocals, and they sound really pissed off. They also really rock hard. Unfortunately, these tracks download at a glacial speed (not to mention frequent time outs), which would probably discourage most people. (Check out the source Here.) Therefore, I'm going to offer it here. Spread the word.

The Creeps

Here's a gem I came across a few years back by somebody calling themselves The Creeps. I don't know anything about the band. I am also not going to name the song. You'll understand if you download the song and listen to it. Who needs that kind of trouble? Whatever.

The Fall - Live at Victoria University NZ 9-8-1982

The Fall, at least for the first eight years or so, is my favorite band in the world. The band, based in Manchester England, has been around since the mid-1970s. One of the things I appreciate about the earlier era of The Fall is the syncopation. Since the 1980s, The Fall has experienced dozens of different line-ups. It might be the longest lasting of the original Punk/New Wave, and certainly has produced more albums than almost anyone else. The only constant (although he doesn't necessarily sing on every track) is frontman Mark E. Smith. Since the min-1980s, The Fall has basically been his project. Some of the later stuff I like; others not so much.

Anyway, this first direct download features a live "album" from 1982 that was once featured on the The Unofficial Fall Website (which at the time was the official website). The link is now dead, but you can now get it here. I also tried to enhance it a bit.

Drunk And Armed - The Hippo Tumor Mixes

As of now, this blog, besides trolling the internet for music downloads, will start presenting original music downloads on occasion. You'll know the difference, because I'll actually write a little something about the downloads. For my first two such posts, the offering will be music for which I played a part.

The Hippo Tumor Mixes are the product of several demo tapes made by Drunk And Armed in 2000 & 2001 (except for the first track which was recorded in 2004), and represents my first efforts at re-mixing. The Hippo Tumor name was taken from a documentary on the Discovery Channel. The cover photo, above, was taken in the Skagit Valley, which is known for its fertile crop lands, in winter.

Download the entire album:

D/L Shank - The Curse of Shank

D/L Shank - The Curse of Shank. Power Violence. "I'll shank your ass if you come near me." Truly a classic. I agree that it would be great to play like these guys. I even have a song inspired from my declaration of psychological warfare against the Seattle P.D. during 1999 WTO. (I knew I suceeded when several weeks later, as I was walking to my house, a pig on a motorcycle saw me and did such a double take that he almost hit my parked 1976 Chrysler Newport. I had to stop wearing my trade mark fedora.)

I can also relate to their hatred of labels (and their hatred in general). These guys need guns (too bad they're Scots).
